Basic Drill Series With the CRT Belt 2.0!

If you're just finding us, the CRT Belt 2.0 is the second version of KGS Baseball's Catcher Resistance Receiving Training Tool (CRT). This video is a good starting point for drill work that can be accomplished using the CRT Belt to strengthen and improve your receiving technique. Think of these exercises as your "tee work" and "front toss" before jumping on a machine or catching a live arm. The CRT Belt is worn during each of these exercises. Feel free to use whichever resistance cable length and position give you a solid level of resistance! Also, sign up to www.kgsbaseball.com on our home page for extra drills and for 10% off your CRT Belt 2.0! Receiving training, simplified!

Drill #1: Resisted Dry Feels - Relax into your pre-pitch move and control your glove back into "presentation" like you are receiving a pitch. Hold at presentation for prolonged resistance. Focus on being smooth and strong.

Drill #2: Barehand Rolls - Relax into your pre-pitch move and smoothly work out to and through the pitch. Avoid simply grabbing and lifting the ball. Hold at presentation for prolonged resistance, focus on being smooth and strong, and keep the thumb angled down while making one fluid movement into presentation.

Drill #3: Barehand Shorthops - Same as drill #2 but with a timing element. Relax into your pre-pitch move and smoothly work out to and through the pitch. Avoid simply grabbing and lifting the ball. Stay patient and work with the ball back up into the zone without being jerky. Hold at presentation for prolonged resistance, focus on being smooth and strong, and keep the thumb angled down while making one fluid movement into presentation.

Drill #4: Barehand Plyos/Weighted Ball Flips - Focus on being on time from outside the ball and not letting the heavy balls knock you off of your path, while still controlling the lighter balls. For more challenging work, have your partner feed the weighted balls in random order so you must control each in the same manner regardless of the weight.

Drill #5: Plyos/Weighted Ball Flips with Glove - Same as drill #4 but with a glove. Control each weight and create speed with the glove. Pocket every time!

Drill #6: Regular Flips with Glove - Combine the focuses of drills #1-#5 and start to create speed with the glove through the ball while working against the resistance. Being on time is crucial, as being early will cause inefficiency and being late will likely mean that you miss the ball. Pocket every time!

Drill #7: Rapid Fire Flips - Have a partner feed 5+ balls rapidly. Catch and release while not allowing the resistance to pull your glove out of position. Get the pocket on the ball every time!

MOVE ON TO MACHINE WORK, BULLPENS, GAMES, ETC. AFTER REMOVING CRT BELT. DO NOT CATCH HIGH VELOCITY WITH THE BELT ATTACHED!
